The
tale of
the levitating vampire corpse
During one of my errands, I was exploring one
of the dungeons of the region, with my usual "levitate" spell always
active. I went up a hole and found myself in the room with a vampire who needed to die a
second time (hehehe..) I took a couple of steps backwards, just to prevent to get hit,
then I sprang forth, striking the creature with my sword. I got rid of it with but a few
blows, but, to my astonishment, I found I had put too much energy in them, for the corpse
was nowhere to be found (not in that room, at least).
Our fight took place at the very edge of a pit, so I reckoned it could have fallen down
below. I gently floated to the bottom of the hole, but neither a thorough search helped me
in finding the body (and the reward as well... what a shame!). "Well" I said to
myself "no need to worry about it anymore. Now it's dead...for good
(hehehe...)". I simply forgot about it and I went on.
Imagine my wonder when, later on, I enter a room with an altar in the center, standing at
the end of a slope; to the left of it I saw, floating in mid-air, the corpse of that same
vampire... (how did I know it was the one? Well, when I happened to kill others, their
body was usually lying at my feet...) and with all its treasure in it (not very much, to
be sincere, only some hundreds gold coins and an Eodoric, but, anyway, money always comes
in handy...). I know about vampires that have "levitate" as an innate (or maybe
"indead" hehehe...) ability, but that they could retain it also after the
"definitive death" goes beyond my comprehension...Well, another mistery of
Daggerfall remains unsolved, but, at least, the world is free from a foul creature like
that...
