"What?!? Another page about Daggerfall?!? The web is FULL of them!!!" You are probably saying. Well, I agree with you, so here you won't find the Tamrellian calendar or infos about gaining ranks in the different guilds; nor you will find a file .zip with a pre-prepared character. DF is a roleplaying game and if you want a character, DO IT YOURSELF, accordingly to your likings! Anyway, if you want, you can have a look at my character and, please, consider that due to a major HD failure >:-( I had to start it over, so by now he is not that powerful... or is he? ;o)

"And what will I find then?"

Four things:

  1. a section with queer screenshots of DF (5 so far): WeirDaggerPhotos;

  2. some humour related to Daggerfall; so far there is just a little story called Origins of Tamrellian Races;

  3. The Inevitable Light Bulb Jokes (15 so far), with DF races and creatures;

  4. Darak's Comics Page, some humuorous cartoons I wrote and drew (work HEAVILY in progress ;-) )

  5. and, if you go on reading, you will also find some advices, and useful ones! You have to know that I managed to become an Archmage in less than a month (game-time).

First of all, I think you too understood that, in order to raise a skill you have to practice it as many times as your percentage in it plus 1 (this may vary, though: it happened to me that I had to use some of them twice the level plus 1; moreover, I don't know why, my Destruction Skill, that I put as Minor, stopped at 95% - maybe it's a bug). According to me, though, the most important thing to know about skill advancement it's WHEN it takes place: from the moment you trained a skill (i.e. used it as much as I said before or trained - I will speak more about TRAINING later) SIX HOURS AND A MINUTE must pass in order to advance not only that particular ability, but also ANY OTHER ONE you practiced in the meanwhile. So, for example, if you 've got a Destruction skill of 52% and launched 53 fireballs (no matter how powerful they are) after six hour from the moment you casted the 53rd you will gain a point in Destruction, and if, during this time you hacked and slashed with your sword enough times to raised your Long Sword skill, you will gain a point in it either, even if you did it just one minte before the change. Moreover, YOU CAN DECIDE WHEN the advancement will occur, for six hour and a minute it's only the MINIMUM time: the actual change takes place whenever, after this time, you travel or sleep (loiter) - or if your sleeping period exceed this time too. For example, once I was in a dungeon, nearly six hours after I perused my magical skills: I did not sleep until I had used all my weapon skills against the monsters in order to raise them too. I know it can sound a bit complicated, but I think that if you see it in the actual game you will understand it better.

About the TRAINING you can perform at temples and guilds, it works, as far as I understand, in quite a similar way, counting as some 20-30 usages of the skill you practiced, i.e. when you train a skill whose percentage is less than 20, you are sure to get the point after the proper time, between 20 and 30 you got a fair chance, but over 30 you'll have to attend two sessions of training before raising a skill, if you don't intend to add some practice on your own.

Now I'll explain you two useful little tricks (they are NO cheats):

1. Saving time: if you are in a hurry (it's nearly 11.00 PM and the Mages Guild is closing and you are in the opposite side of the city) every now and then click on the compass or press I: this will show your location and status and will STOP the flow of time: i.e. if now it's 10:50, in some 15 seconds (or less, I never actually calculated it) it will be 10:51 lest you do as I said before: this will give you other 15 second until the change of minute, during which you can walk and then press I again, and so on; warning! if the game is loading, the time passes the same, so I suggest you have the Maximum installation (I've got the Medium one and I lose some minutes from time to time);

2. Regaing all Health, Fatigue AND MANA: very easy, simply travel from a place to that same place in CAUTIOUSLY mode: this is how I was able to cast so many spells and raise my magical skills.

Combining all these tricks, here I give you an example of my daily strategy: from 00:30 to 5:30 AM I train one of my lower skills at some temple, then at 6:00 I am able to begin casting spells as required (and pickpocketing too: if you are invisible (TRUE), the guards won't notice you and you will be able to exit and re-enter the city to find new people to rob - as soon as they begin shouting "Halt" people start to disappear, guess why!), until it's time for my trained skills to go up; then I loiter or travel (to the same place, obviously) to let them raise and begin another time to practice; six hours later I repeat the process and so I've got three points more each day for every magical skill (and others like pickpocketing too). Also don't forget to complete the quests for the Mages Guild (I advice to choose the "guard the sleeping-mage" ones) in order to advance in rank.
